NSF61 Certification

Red Valve’s Tideflex Inlet Nozzles and Waterflex Outlet Check Valves are NSF61 Certified. The valves themselves, the finished products, are NSF61 Certified not just the raw material used in fabricating the valves. Products made from NSF raw materials do not constitute an NSF61 Certified product. In fact, NSF issued a memo stating that raw materials with NSF61 certification sometimes fail to meet the requirements of the standard when the finished product is tested. This memo is available in the Technical Data section of the web page.

There are many chemicals, adhesives, curing agents and other materials used in rubber fabrication facilities that could pose public health threat should they be leached into potable water. Some elastomers themselves can leach unsafe byproducts.

In order to segregate NSF61 products from non-NSF products, and to gain NSF61 Certification, Red Valve invested in the following:

  • Built a dedicated material storage room to house materials used in manufacturing NSF61 valves.
  • Purchased dedicated mandrels (equipment in which the valves are fabricated). All NSF valves are built on dedicated NSF mandrels. Valves made for any non-potable water use, such as stormwater and wastewater, are forbidden to be built on NSF-dedicated mandrels. They are fabricated in a different part of the plant.
  • Revised our manufacturing procedures to eliminate the use of chemicals and compounds commonly used in rubber fabrication that would pose a public health risk.
  • Built dedicated fabrication rooms where NSF valves are built on dedicated NSF mandrels.
  • Built a dedicated finishing room where valves are made ready for shipment.
