Tideflex Air Diffusers were developed to overcome the limitations of traditional coarse and fine bubble designs. By incorporating patented Tideflex Duckbill Check Valve technology into the design of each air diffuser model, Tideflex has created a line of products that offer excellent mixing and oxygen transfer characterisitics, while preventing the backflow and clogging that is the cause of most maintenance in an aeration system. Tideflex diffusers can significantly reduce operating costs by eliminating clogging and the manpower requirements for cleaning. Tideflex provides high rate mixing systems for wastewater processes utilizing the Tideflex Variable Orifice Nozzles to produce high discharge velocities and complete mixing of process vessels and structures. The mixing system is designed using Tideflex developed models, velocity gradient mixing technology, and computational fluids design models. The complete distribution manifold system and Tideflex nozzles are provided by Tideflex ready for installation. In meeting NPDES permit requirements, the use of a Multiport Effluent Diffuser is often less costly than adding additional treatment processes at the plant. Tideflex Diffuser / Check Valves (TFD) are used extensively on inland and marine multiport outfall diffusers. TFD's prevent the intrusion of sediment and salt water into the header pipe which can drastically reduce the hydraulic capacity and dilution efficiency of the outfall. TFD's are inherently a variable orifice (open/close with increase/decrease flow) maximizing jet velocity at all flow rates, which enhances initial dilution. The variable orifice characteristics also results in a more uniform flow distribution across the ports and superior salt water purging characteristics. Tideflex valves protect single port effluent outfalls from backflow due to rising water levels and tides. Backflow can reduce the pipeline's storage capacity and can upset the treatment plant operation. Tideflex valves are passive and completely drain the pipeline. Tideflex valves also provide more rapid mixing and dilution of effluent due to the variable orifice design. Tideflex valves also effectively prevent intrusion of rodents into the pipeline. Tideflex valves prevent the backflow of clean water into the overflow pipes of SSO's and CSO's. When flap gates fail, backflow occurs and treatment plants are forced to treat the clean water because it has combined with sewage. The persistent operational problems with flap gates, and resulting high maintenance costs, resulted in the US EPA issuing a grant to Red Valve Company in the early 1980's to design and develop an "All Rubber Duckbill Tide Gate" to overcome problems with flap gates. With a multi-year design, development, and observation, the EPA reported signigicant performance improvements over flap gates. Go to - Check Valves Page Go to - Top of Page
Biological activated sludge processes require a portion of the sludge from the clarifiers to be returned to the process basin to maintain the desired MLSS levels. Installing Tideflex chaeck valves at the pump discharge point and submerged within the basin liquid will enhance mixing as the Tideflex valve performs as a variable orifice nozzle. For nutrient removal processes where a large portion of the process flow is recirculated back to the anoxic zones, the Tideflex valve is ideal for providing one directional flow and preventing short-circuiting of the system flow loop. Tideflex check valves are also used for controlling flow through tanks connected in series where reverse flow is undesirable. Go to - Check Valves Page Go to - Top of Page
Wastewater pumping systems benefit by using in-line Tideflex check valves because they are low headloss, completely passive with no mechanical parts, do not slam or bang. Tideflex valves also provide superior sealing characteristics compared to all other check valves because the entire valve is flexible and can form a better seal around solids. These valves can be provided with integral saddle support to prevent valve damage resulting from water column back surge and hammer. Go to - Check Valves Page Go to - Top of Page ![]()
Tideflex valves have an extremely low cracking pressure and have superior sealing characteristics making them ideally suited for ground water and gas relief of concrete tanks and geomembrane liners. Effective hydrostatic relief prevents liners from floating and prevents damage to concrete structures. Tideflex valves will not clog, freeze or corrode. Tideflex provides the complete pressure relief assembly with sediment sieve. Tideflex Engineering can help size the complete hydrostatic pressure relief system for your application.
